Fat Transfer
As we age, our skin loses collagen, often resulting in a sagging, hollow appearance. Patients who are unhappy with sunken areas of their face, wrinkles, small breasts, flat buttocks, or aged hands may benefit from the fat transfer procedure.
What is Fat Transfer?
The fat transfer procedure in Seattle, Washington uses fat from other areas of the body to augment areas that may be lacking volume. Fat may be transferred to the face, breasts, buttocks, and hands for a younger-looking appearance.
The Procedure
During fat transfer surgery, fat will be harvested from another area of the body, like the abdomen, flanks, or thighs. A small incision will be made in the area of removal, and liposuction will be used to extract the fat. The fat cells will then be purified and transferred to small syringes. A small needle will be inserted into the areas being augmented, transferring the newly purified fat cells. A consultation with Dr. Partington is needed to determine an individual procedure plan to address your cosmetic needs.
The Recovery
Patients will experience swelling and bruising following their fat transfer procedure, and medication can help control any discomfort. These effects should begin to subside within a week. Patients should be able to return to work within one to two weeks. Makeup can be used to conceal any bruising while healing. With fat grafting, there is always a percentage of the transferred fat that will not take. It is important to take this into account when considering results.
