Eyelid Lift

Your eyes are no doubt the window to your soul. Genetics or aging can lead to puffy, tired eyes that have sagging skin and bags around them. Blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery is a customized procedure that can help to refine the contours of the upper eyelids and smooth the puffiness, hollows, or bags of the lower eyelids. Eyelid surgery can help immensely in changing that unintended sad or angry look you may have. You can trust the experience and individualized attention that Dr. Partington offers to all his patients in Seattle, Washington.

What is Blepharoplasty?

Eyelid surgery is a cosmetic procedure designed to restore a youthful appearance to the upper eyelids and improve the puffiness, sagging skin, and under-eye bags from the lower eyelids. The techniques used for eyelid surgery include:

  • An incision made within the natural creases of the upper eyelids. Your surgeon then removes or redistributes the excessive skin for a less tired look.
  • The fat of the lower eyelids can be grafted, reduced, or redistributed through this incision. This improves the hollows you have under your eyes.
  • If you have any sagging skin or puffiness below the lower eyelid, an incision at or below the eyelash will allow for reduction.
  • Those ‘sad’ eyes or the downturned appearance can be enhanced by making an incision around the outer corners of the eye.

If you have any indications of facial aging, rejuvenating surgery to remove these signs is just what you need. An ideal candidate for this procedure has realistic expectations from the surgery.

The Procedure

Blepharoplasty is comfortable under light sedation local anesthesia. Dr. Partington will design discrete incisions to hide in natural creases. Scars are virtually unnoticeable due to the strategic placement of incisions. After incisions are made, excess tissues are removed using surgical instruments selected by Dr. Partington. Depending on your desired results, Dr. Partington will determine the amount of skin to be removed, leaving you with tighter and younger-looking eyes.

Eyelid Surgery FAQs

  • Can Botox lift droopy eyelids?

In some cases, strategically placed Botox injections can temporarily “lift” drooping eyelids, but blepharoplasty is the only way to permanently provide relief for hooded or drooping eyes.

  • Can droopy eyelids cause blurred vision?

When the upper eyelid sags low enough that it covers part of the pupil, it can reduce a persons field of vision and can cause blurring.

  • Does eyelid surgery leave scars?

Although there are a few incisions needed to complete a blepharoplasty, Dr. Partington hides them in the natural creases and crevices around the eye for an unnoticeable final result.

  • Can I sleep on my side after eyelid surgery?

There is very little risk involved with side sleeping after blepharoplasty, but for best results and to reduce swelling, Dr. Partington recommends patients sleep slightly elevated and on their back.

  • How long after Blepharoplasty do you see results?

Although the recovery time varies by patient, blepharoplasty patients can expect full recovery to take several weeks.

The Recovery

Your eyes are likely to feel tender once the anesthesia and medication wear off. Redness and swelling are normal side effects that you are likely to experience and an ointment may be provided to reduce dryness around the eyes. Patients are typically sent home after the procedure but will experience unclear vision for the next 24 hours. Patients should also be cautious of light and should shield their eyes from the sun’s rays and bright artificial lighting. Full recovery from blepharoplasty generally takes several weeks.
