Announcement: We are excited to promote Pam Hoge as she had the wonderful opportunity to volunteer on Friday, February 6th with Operation Sack Lunch. Pam was quickly put in the kitchen and started prepping for lunch that would be served that day. OSL is a meal and basic necessities provider serving the un-housed, no and low income, food-insecure children, women, and men, who call Seattle their home. They are a grassroots project that began in 1989 with 30 lunches in the kitchen of singer-songwriter Beverly Graham. OSL has now provided more than 2.9 million hot meals and sack lunches currently serve 3 meals a day, seven days a week. For many, OSL is the last line of defense for those in our community living directly on the streets. We are so excited to present to your our third annual Global Health Gala. This year’s event features the work of Rotary and Healing the Children to make a difference in the world for children. The event will inspire you with the stories of partnership and passion for a purpose. Our keynote speaker is one of my personal global health heroes. Ezra Teshome is a man who saw a need in his home country of Ethiopia to eradicate polio – no small task – and set about to do just this. Beginning in 1998, he started leading teams of Rotarians and friends to Ethiopia to changes lives…two drops at a time. Ethiopia is proud to say it is polio-free today thanks to people like Ezra and the many who have supported this effort. Additionally, we will celebrate the work of Rotary, especially the Rotary of Lake Stevens, District 5050 and Vista Hermosa with significant support from the Seattle International Foundation to build a medical clinic in Monterrico, Guatemala. What began as a dream 4 years ago is now a thriving medical center for 22,000 impoverished people.
