The Benefits of RHA Fillers for Facial Rejuvenation

By Dr. Marshall T. Partington on July 06, 2023 in Injectables

Do you want to rejuvenate your youthful appearance without the need for surgery? The RHA® Collection from Revance is one of the highest-quality hyaluronic acid dermal fillers and we are already loving the versatility and beautiful results of this facial rejuvenation treatment!

What Are RHA Fillers?

The new Revance collection of RHA dermal fillers is the first and only filler FDA-approved for the treatment of dynamic facial wrinkles. Dynamic wrinkles are formed due to repeated facial expressions like laughing, frowning, and furrowing the brow. These are resilient hyaluronic acid fillers considered to be “clean” because they are made with less processing than Juvéderm or Restylane, other popular hyaluronic acid fillers. Less processing makes the formula more consistent with natural hyaluronic acid found in the body, minimizing the risks of injections.

Which RHA Filler is Right for Me?

The RHA Collection includes 4 unique fillers specially designed for different areas of the face and different types of wrinkles:

  • RHA Redensity: a thin formula used to smooth vertical lip lines and perioral lines around the mouth
  • RHA 2: smooth surface lines and wrinkles like vertical lip lines, cheek lines that fan out from the corners of the mouth, frown lines (glabellar lines), and crow’s feet at the corners of the eyes
  • RHA 3: fill in deep wrinkles like nasolabial folds (laugh lines) and augment the lips or cheeks
  • RHA 4: injected into the deep skin tissues to treat severe facial folds and augment the cheekbones or jawline

What Makes RHA Fillers Unique?

Two of the main differences between RHA fillers and other hyaluronic acid fillers are their clean formula and ability to treat dynamic wrinkles and static lines. Static wrinkles and folds are visible even when the face is at rest. Minimal processing also causes less swelling and allows RHA to move naturally with facial expressions, whether it is injected into the surface of the skin or deep tissues of the face. An additional benefit is that the results of RHA filler treatment last up to 15 months compared to most HA fillers which last 6-12 months.

Can RHA Fillers be Combined with Botox?

For total facial rejuvenation and more dramatic results, the combination of RHA dermal filler injections and Botox is a great choice! Botox has even been found to enhance the effects of RHA fillers and help them last longer. This is because Botox uses botulinum toxin A to temporarily paralyze facial muscles, preventing movement of the treated area.

Can RHA Fillers be Used on Other Areas of the Body?

The plumping and hydrating effects of hyaluronic acid, found in RHA fillers, can also be used to smooth the skin and reduce wrinkles on the neck, décolletage, and hands. When used on the hands, the appearance of prominent tendons and veins is reduced because the surrounding skin is plumped up and essentially covers the tendons.
